Guns Akimbo Review (2020)

If you talk about Daniel Radcliffe, you might immediately remember the iconic role, which is Harry Potter. After his role as Harry ended, Radcliffe certainly still starred in various other films. This year, you will see Radcliffe's actions again through a film called Guns Akimbo .

Unlike the Harry Potter series , Guns Akimbo is an action genre film flavored with comedy elements. In this film, Radcliffe collided acting with the main star of the film Ready or Not (2019), namely Samara Weaving. Before it caly film lektor cda was released in a public cinema, Guns Akimbo turned out to have aired first at the Toronto International Film Festival in September last year.

The film, directed by Jason Lei Howden, revolves around a programmer named Miles Lee Haris who is too fixated on cyberspace and games. One day, Miles made the mistake of insulting his forum Skizm, the organizer of the popular live stream deathmatch on the internet. As a result, Miles was instead forced to follow Skizm's deathmatch and had to face high-level criminals.

Present Concepts of Interesting Stories Executed Less Maximum

From the premise of the story, Guns Akimbo is arguably a satire to offend people who are too preoccupied with cyberspace. In fact, the deathmatch that Skizm held in this film was made similar to deathmatch in the game. The concept of the story raised is actually quite interesting and in accordance with the reality of today's life. Unfortunately, it is not well executed.

As a director and screenwriter, Howden actually had enough to try to bring some plot twist in Guns Akimbo . Once again, the plot twist that should have been a surprise and might be able to save the storyline of the film instead made the story make more sense and was forced.

Many Dialogues Are Not Important

Aside from being an action film, Guns Akimbo also presents comedy elements in it. Most of the comedy elements in this film come from the behavior of Miles and the jokes of each character. Radcliffe's acting as Miles who was weak and careless was quite successful enough to provoke audience laughter.

Radcliffe's careless acting proved successful in making the audience laugh, unfortunately, the pranks spoken by the characters felt too excessive and not important.
This is not a matter of their jokes which are not in accordance with Indonesian jokes. You see, many jokes are spoken in situations or scenes that are not right.

It's not just the selection of situations that are not right, some jokes that are told might make you cringe when you hear it. Imagine, how could some characters in this film still say dialogue is not important in situations that do not allow it just to try to make the film funny.

Action that is too intense throughout the film

The name is also an action movie, certainly not the wrong thing if Akimbo Guns presents an action that is too intense. Unfortunately, the action shown was not matched by a strong plot and an appropriate comedy . So, this film feels like it's only relying on the side of the action to look interesting.

On the positive side, Guns Akimbo comes with an "R" rating. With this rating , the film production team did not hesitate to show a truly "crazy" action. If you don't mind a film with excess action, you are guaranteed to enjoy it. For those of you who don't like excessive action, you might be "struggling" watching this film.

There are Shooting Techniques that are quite disturbing

This might be a note for you who want to watch Akimbo Guns , especially for people who are easily dizzy. Maybe because they want to look different from other films, the production team uses camera techniques that are quite unique for certain scenes. So, there is one scene where the camera only focuses on Miles. While highlighting Miles who kept moving, the camera was kept rotating in a short amount of time.


The shooting technique used is actually quite unique. However, this technique will not be suitable for people who are easily dizzy. You see, the rotating camera scene lasts quite a long time, maybe almost or more than 10 seconds. Fortunately, the camera technique is only done for one scene.
